Newport Landing
Long Beach Whale Watching is for California residents and guests who are interested in going whale watching. Newport Landing facilitates year-round, daily excursions just south of Long Beach departing from beautiful Newport Beach. With its protected shoreline as well as a marine canyon right off shore, Newport Bay is home to numerous species year-round and hosts a multitude of migratory species through the course of the year. This in turn makes Newport one of the most flourishing whale watching areas in the country.
During summer and fall, Blue, Minke, and Finback Whales will likely be observed off the coast. During the rest of the year, Southern California waters host Gray Whales as they migrate to feed and have young. Newport Landing additionally gets the opportunity to see Southern California resident Common Dolphins as well as Bottlenose Dolphins, Risso’s Dolphins, and California Sea Lions.
Newport Landing’s preliminary whale watching craft was intended exclusively for whale watching and has comfortable seating, an upper-level observation area, and a large, indoor galley with a snack and drink bar. Our captains have several years of working experience searching for dolphins and whales and we have an incredible 96% success rate of finding cetaceans on our tours. $11 student rate is good for all school groups including homeschool and private. With a large selection of cruise times to choose from and trips offered daily 7 days a week for even the most challenging schedules. Education packets and other materials available through our education
Group Pricing
Groups of 20 persons or more can take advantage of groups discount of 25% or more off retail rates. Typically group pricing is only extended to groups of 20 persons or more.
Private Charters
Looking for a unique and memorable event, a whale watching cruise is a great option for all ages. Whale watching ship rentals are available for all size groups and occasions. Cruises are typically 2.5 hour, but trip lengths and departure/return times can be customized upon request.
